The Boston Red Sox are smart enough to realize a retool was in order.

To kickstart the festivities, the club made a pair of moves that includes Jon Lester and Jonny Gomes to Oakland for Cuban OF Yoenis Cespedes, followed by dealing Jon Lackey to the Cardinals for 1B/OF Allen Craig and SP Joe Kelly.

These deals have helped the Red Sox be better balanced on offense, and has freed up roster spots for their young prospects to thrive.

Yoenis Cespedes will be the best pure slugger to hit behind David Ortiz since Manny Ramirez. At just $10.5 MIL for salary next year, it solves a problem for the club adding offense in the offseason with a longterm deal.

Yoenis Cespedes will be the best pure slugger to hit behind David Ortiz since Manny Ramirez. At just $10.5 MIL for salary next year, it solves a problem for the club adding offense in the offseason with a longterm deal.  Cespedes has great raw power, and the 28 year old should really thrive playing in the confines of Fenway Park 81 times a year.

For those that have never seen one of our Roster Trees, we go over how all of the players were acquired.

It works like 6 degrees of separation. By searching back to the origin of all the way back until a player is signed, drafted or purchased.

It totally gives you an idea on how the franchise has fared.

After this season, Craig will have a minimum of $26.5 MIL left on the table for the 3 years from 2015 - 2017. This is a great move for the Red Sox, considering the man has a career 3 slash line of .291/.343/.460 - despite lower totals in 2014 of a .683 OPS. What is better is that the 30 Year Old 1B/OF has an OPS of .839 in 100 AB in the postseason. Boston has provided David Ortiz with some right handed pop for sure.
